The white wooden Neo-Classical building was constructed in 1903.  It is located on Maine Street between A Street and Williams Avenue.  Maine Street is United States Highway 95 in this part of the town.  Ben Leon is the building designer.  The building was enlarged in 1974 and an Administrative Center was built in 1999.  Churchill County was established on November 25, 1861 as an original county (2nd county.)  Bucklands (1861), La Plata (1864), Stillwater (1868), and Fallon (1903) have all served as county seat.  It is named for Mexican War hero General Sylvester Churchill.  The county seat is named for settler Michael Fallon. 

Churchill County government consists of a manager, a sheriff, an attorney, a treasurer and a clerk (executive).  It has 3 Supervisors (legislative.)  One District Court Judge and One Justice Court Judge serve Churchill County (judicial.)  The county is in western Nevada.  Reno, Nevada is west and Las Vegas, Nevada is southeast of the county.  The county center is 25 miles Northeast of Fallon.  The county is surrounded clockwise by Pershing, Lander, Nye, Mineral, Lyon, and Washoe counties. 

The area of the city is 4929 square miles.  It is 10 out of 17 in the state.  It ranks 8 out of 17 in population in the state.  It has a density of 5.2 persons per square mile making it 7 out of 17 in the state.  Churchill County has 36.5% of its population in its incorporated areas.  Interstate Highway 80 cuts the northwest corner of the county from north to west from Pershing County to Washoe County.  United States Highway 50 travels east to west from Lander County to Lyon County.  United States Highway 50 Alternate originates and heads west into Lyon County.  United States Highway 95 enters joined with Interstate Highway 80 from Pershing County, splits and exits south to Mineral County.  United States Highway 95 Alternate originates joined with Interstate Highway 80, splits and goes south into Lyon County.  The county looks like a bowl.  Fallon is in the southwest quarter of the county.  Fallon is the county seat and the largest city since it is the only incorporated city.  It is 36.5% of the county population.  The county seat is pronounced FAL-ON.  This county is in the Fallon Micropolitan Statistical Area.
