A 2007 Modern skyscraper is the Clark County courthouse.  The courthouse is at 3^rd and Carson streets.  United States Highway 95 is four blocks northeast of the courthouse.  There were 1914 and 1959 versions earlier also in Las Vegas the only county seat.  Tate, Snyder and Kimsey Architects provided the current courthouse designs.  The county was established on January 4, 1909 as the 15^th county.  It was originally part of Lincoln County.  Clark County was named for United States Senator William Andrews Clark.  The county seat is Spanish for “the meadows.” 

Clark County government consists of a manager, a sheriff, an attorney, a treasurer and a clerk (executive).  It has 7 Commissioners (legislative.)  Thirty-two District Court Judges, Twenty-two Justice Court Judges, and Twenty-four Family Court Judges serve Clark County (judicial.)  Clark County is in the southern tip of Nevada.  Reno, Nevada is northwest and Salt Lake City, Utah is northeast of the county.  The Colorado River forms its southeast border with Arizona.  California is on its southwest border.  The county center is in Las Vegas 8 miles South-Southeast of the city center.  The county is surrounded clockwise by Lincoln County and Arizona and California and Nye County. 

The area of the city is 7911 square miles.  It is 6 out of 17 in the state.  It ranks 1 out of 17 in population in the state.  It has a density of 286.4 persons per square mile making it 1 out of 17 in the state.  Clark County has 55.5% of its population in its incorporated areas.  Interstate Highway 15 crosses northeast to southwest in the county from Arizona to California.  United States Highway 93 goes north to south from Lincoln County to Arizona.  United States Highway 95 travels northwest to south from Nye County to , and California.  The county is shaped like the State of Nevada.  Las Vegas is in the northwest quarter of the county.  Las Vegas is the county seat and the largest city.  It is 28.5% of the county population.  The county seat is pronounced LAS VAE-GAS.  This county is in the Las Vegas-Paradise Metropolitan Statistical Area.
