The domed Classical Revival courthouse is built of stucco and tan bricks.  It was built in 1921 at Main Street and Central Avenue.  United States Highway 40 Business is one block southeast of the courthouse.  Francis J. DeLongchamps is the designer.  Pershing County was created on January 1, 1919 from Humboldt County as the 17th and final county with Lovelock as the only county seat.  It is named for World War I General John Pershing.  The county seat is named for settler George Lovelock.  Pershing County was the birthplace for 1 Nevada Governor, Charles H. Russell. 

Pershing County government consists of a manager, a sheriff, an attorney, a treasurer and a clerk (executive).  It has 3 Commissioners (legislative.)  Two District Court Judges serve Pershing, Lander, and Mineral counties and One Justice Court Judge serves Pershing County (judicial.)  Pershing County is in the northwest part of the state.  Reno, Nevada is southwest and Boise, Idaho is northeast of the county.  The county center is 32.4 miles North of Lovelock near Oreana.  The county is surrounded clockwise by Humboldt, Lander, Churchill, and Washoe counties. 

The area of the city is 6009 square miles.  It is 8 out of 17 in the state.  It ranks 11 out of 17 in population in the state.  It has a density of 1.1 persons per square mile making it 12 out of 17 in the state.  Pershing County has 27.2% of its population in its incorporated areas.  Interstate Highway 80 travels northeast to southwest through the county from Humboldt County, north, to Churchill County, south.  United States Highway 95 is joined with Interstate Highway 80 from Humboldt to Churchill counties.  The county resembles a tanker ship.  Lovelock is located near the southern border of the county.  Lovelock is the county seat and the largest city since it is the only incorporated city.  It is 27.2% of the county population.
