The tan brick and masonry Art Deco facility is located on a square at Main, 7th, Mitchell, and 8th streets. Main Street is New Mexico State Highway 209 and United States Highway 60 is six blocks south of the structure. Robert E. Merrell is the architect. This courthouse replaced an earlier Clovis courthouse in 1937. The building was enlarged in 1956. An Annex is located across the street. The county is established on February 25, 1909 from parts of Quay and Roosevelt counties as the 26th county with Clovis as the only county seat. The county was named for Territorial Governor and Congressman George Curry. The county seat is named after Frankish King Clovis I.

Five District Court Judges serve Curry and Roosevelt counties (judicial.) The county is in the far east of New Mexico on the border with Texas. Roswell, New Mexico is to the southwest and Lubbock, Texas is to the southeast. The county center is 14.9 miles North-Northwest of Clovis. The county is surrounded clockwise by Quay County and Texas and Roosevelt County.
The area of the county is 1406 square miles. It is 30 out of 33 in the state. It ranks 12 out of 33 in population in the state. It has a density of 34.4 persons per square mile making it 7 out of 33 in the state. Curry County has 83.0% of its population in its incorporated areas. United States Highway 60 crosses the county from east to west from Texas into Roosevelt County. United States Highway 70 enters joined with United States Highway 60 from Texas, splits at Clovis, and continues southwest into Roosevelt County. United States Highway 84 is joined with United States Highway 60 across the county. The county is shaped like a block with a northwest staircase of five steps. Clovis is in the southeast corner of the county. Clovis is the county seat and the largest city. It is 79.6% of the county population. The county is pronounced KUR-REE. The county seat is pronounced KLOE-VUS. This county is in the Clovis Micropolitan Statistical Area.
