A Modern red brick courthouse was built in 1963. It is located on United States Highway 9 at Gurney Lane. Milton Lee Crandell, Charles T. Whitney, and William Bouton provided the building designs. A County Administration Building was also built in 1963. Warren County was established on January 1, 1813 from Washington County as the 46th county with Lake George as the original county seat. There was an 1845 courthouse earlier. Queensbury became the county seat in 1963. The county is named for American Revolutionary War General Joseph Warren. The county seat is named for the lake. Warren County was the birthplace for 2 New York Governors, Charles E. Hughes, Sr., and John Alden Dix.

One County Court Judge and Two Family Court Judges serve Warren County (judicial.) The county is in the northeast part of New York. The Hudson River flows through the county. Albany, New York is south of the county. The county center is 15.1 miles North of Lake George nearer Chestertown. The county is surrounded clockwise by Essex, Washington, Saratoga, and Hamilton counties.

Interstate Highway 87 crosses the county north to south from Essex County to Saratoga County. United States Highway 9 parallels Interstate Highway 87 from Essex to Saratoga counties. Warren County looks like the number 7 with its leg shortened. Queensbury is located in the southeast quarter of the county. Glens Falls is in the southeast corner of the county. Queensbury is the county seat and Glens Falls is the largest city. Queensbury is 44.4% of the county population although it is not incorporated. Glens Falls is 22.6% of the county population. This county is in the Glens Falls Metropolitan Statistical Area.
