A red brick Italianate facility sits in a city square at Fulton and Chestnut streets.  Ohio State Highway 108 is two blocks to the east of the location.  The building was built in 1872 using the designs of C. C. Miller.  A Courthouse Annex was built in 1990 and a County Administrative Building in 2001.  The courthouse is under remodeling in 2019.  It features a tower with a working clock and the grounds have veteran memorials and a canon.  Fulton County was founded on April 1, 1850 from parts of Lucas, Henry, and Williams counties as the 87th county.  Ottokee was the first county seat until 1869 when Wauseon became the seat.  The county is named for inventor Robert Fulton.  The county seat is named for a Native American chief. 

Fulton County government consists of a sheriff and 3 Commissioners.  Four Common Pleas Court Judges serve Fulton County.  The county is on the northwest border with Michigan.  Toledo, Ohio is directly east and Columbus, Ohio is southeast of the county.  The county center is 2.1 miles North of Wauseon.  The county is surrounded clockwise by Michigan and Lucas, Henry, and Williams counties. 

The area of the county is 407 square miles.  It is 80 out of 88 in the state.  It ranks 57 out of 88 in population in the state.  It has a density of 104.91 persons per square mile making it 49 out of 88 in the state.  Fulton County has 48.8% of its population in its incorporated areas.  Interstate Highways 80/90 cross the county east to west from Lucas County to Williams County.  United States Highway 20 parallels Interstate Highway 80 from Lucas to Williams counties.  United States Highway 20 Alternate travels east to west from Lucas County to Williams County.  Fulton County is a rectangle.  Wauseon is located in the southern third of the county.  Wauseon is the county seat and the largest city.  It is 17.2% of the county population.  The county seat is pronounced WA-SE-ON.  This county is in the Toledo Metropolitan Statistical Area.
