The Modern red/brown brick courthouse was built in 1969.  It is located on Broadway at Liberty Street.  Ohio State Highway 18 is Liberty Street.  William Boyd Huff provided the courthouse designs.  The building was enlarged in 2011.  A park is across the street and other government buildings are in the complex.  A County Administration Building is a building west.  The classic 1843 courthouse sits beside the current one.  The county was founded on February 18, 1812 from Portage County as the 43rd county with Medina as the only county seat.  Medina County and its county seat are named for Medina, Saudi Arabia.  Medina County is the birthplace of 1 Ohio Governor, George K. Nash. 

Medina County government consists of a sheriff and 3 Commissioners.  Three Common Pleas Court Judges serve Medina County.  The county is located in northern Ohio.  Cleveland, Ohio is directly northeast and Columbus, Ohio is southwest of the county.  The county center is in Medina 2.1 miles South of the city center.  The county is surrounded clockwise by Cuyahoga, Summit, Wayne, Ashland, and Lorain counties. 

The area of the county is 423.0 square miles.  It is 51 out of 88 in the state.  It ranks 16 out of 88 in population in the state.  It has a density of 431.4 persons per square mile making it 15 out of 88 in the state.  Medina County has 51.3% of its population in its incorporated areas.  Interstate Highway 71 passes through the county from north, Cuyahoga County, to south, Wayne County.  Interstate Highway 76 comes from Summit County, east, and terminates.  United States Highway 42 parallels Interstate Highway 71 from Cuyahoga to Wayne counties.  The county looks like the side of a stair case.  The City of Medina is located in the eastern half of the county.  Brunswick is near the northeast border of the county.  Medina is the county seat and Brunswick is the largest city.  Medina is 14.3% of the county population while Brunswick is 19.4% of the county population.  The county and the county seat are pronounced ME-DIE-NA.  This county is in the Cleveland-Elyria-Mentor Metropolitan Statistical Area.
