The classic stone Richardsonian Romanesque courthouse was constructed in 1894.  A Justice Center was added in 1997 and an Administrative Center in 2000.  LaBelle and French are the architects.  There was also an 1854 courthouse in Warren the only county seat.  The building was restored in 1996.  The courthouse is surrounded by High Street, Park Avenue, Market Street, and Mahoning Avenue.  United States Highway 422 passes three blocks south of the courthouse.  A tower is on top and the grounds are in a park setting with a gazebo.  Veteran memorials are across the street.  The county was established on July 10, 1800 from parts of Jefferson and Wayne counties as the 7th county.  It is named for Connecticut Governor Jonathan Trumbull.  Warren was named for surveyor Moses Warren.  Trumbull County is the birthplace of 1 Ohio Governor, William McKinley. 

The area of the county is 616.5 square miles.  It is 7 out of 88 in the state.  It ranks 15 out of 88 in population in the state.  It has a density of 327.8 persons per square mile making it 19 out of 88 in the state.  Trumbull County has 46.5% of its population in its incorporated areas.  Interstate Highway 80 enters and exits the county twice from Pennsylvania, east, to Mahoning County, south, and finally into Portage County, west.  United States Highway 62 comes in from the east, Pennsylvania, and goes to the south, Mahoning County.  United States Highway 422 enters from Mahoning County, south, and exits into Portage County, west.  William McKinley, the 24th President, was born in this county.  The county is a rectangle.  Warren is located in the southwest quarter of the county.  Warren is the county seat and the largest city.  It is 19.4% of the county population. 

Trumbull County government consists of a sheriff and 3 Commissioners.  Nine Common Pleas Court Judges serve Trumbull County.  The county is on the eastern border with Pennsylvania.  Youngstown, Ohio is directly south and Cleveland, Ohio is northwest of the county.  The county center is 7.3 miles North-Northeast of Warren nearer Klondike.  The county is surrounded clockwise by Ashtabula County and Pennsylvania and Mahoning, Portage, and Geauga counties.  The county is pronounced TRUM-BUL.  This county is in the Youngstown-Warren-Boardman Metropolitan Statistical Area.
