The Modern courthouse was built in 1986 at the corner of Choctaw and Rogers Streets.  Its site is on United States Highway 81.  It is connected to the Administration Building which was built in 1962.  Nicex, Sherman, Lester and Associates are the architects.  There was an original courthouse in El Reno following the March 1, 1890 county founding as an original county (2nd county.)  El Reno has always been the county seat.  The Canadian River gave Canadian County its name.  El Reno is named for Fort Reno, which was established in the county in 1874. 

Canadian County government consists of a sheriff and 3 Commissioners.  Five District Court Judges serve Canadian County.  The county is just west of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.  The county center is 3.8 miles East of El Reno.  The county is surrounded clockwise by Kingfisher, Logan, Oklahoma, Cleveland, Grady, Caddo, and Blaine counties. 

The area of the county is 900 square miles.  It is 32 out of 77 in the state.  It ranks 4 out of 77 in population in the state.  It has a density of 171.3 persons per square mile making it 4 out of 77 in the state.  Canadian County has 95.7% of its population in its incorporated areas.  Interstate Highway 40 comes from the east (Oklahoma County) and goes to the west (Caddo County).  United States Highway 81 enters from Kingfisher County in the north and exits into Grady County on the south.  United States Highway 270 comes from Oklahoma County, east, and goes to Blaine County, west.  United States Highway 281 cuts the far west of the county jointly in from Blaine County with United States Highway 270 then splitting to continue south into Caddo County.  The Canadian River crosses the southwest corner before becoming the southern border of the county.  The North Canadian River also crosses the county from west to east.  The county is a rectangle with El Reno near the county center.  Yukon is located in the southeast quarter of the county.  El Reno is the county seat and Yukon is the largest city.  El Reno is 11.0% of the county population while Yukon is 15.3% of the county population.  This county is in the Oklahoma City Metropolitan Statistical Area.
