The Modern tan brick and concrete courthouse was built in 1960. It is located on Broadway and Main (United States Highway 81). Noftsger-Lawrence and Associates are the building’s designers. In 1903, the first courthouse was built for Kingfisher County in Kingfisher, the only county seat. The current courthouse is the second since its formation on May 2, 1890 as an original county (6th county.) The county and county seat were named for King Fisher, a settler who operated a trading station on the Chisholm Trail.

Fourteen District Court Judges serve Kingfisher, Alfalfa, Blaine, Dewey, Garfield, Grant, Major, Woods and Woodward counties and a court clerk serves Kingfisher County (judicial.) The county is northwest of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and south of Enid, Oklahoma. The Cimarron River crosses the county from west to east. The county center is 7 miles Northeast of Kingfisher. The county is surrounded clockwise by Garfield, Logan, Oklahoma, Canadian, Blaine, and Major counties.
The area of the county is 903 square miles. It is 30 out of 77 in the state. It ranks 45 out of 77 in population in the state. It has a density of 16.8 persons per square mile making it 48 out of 77 in the state. Kingfisher County has 59.6% of its population in its incorporated areas. United States Highway 81 goes north to south from Garfield County to Canadian County. The county is basically square with Kingfisher in the southern third of the county. Kingfisher is the county seat and the largest city. It is 32.4% of the county population.
