The tan brick Classical Revival courthouse at Harrison and Broad was built in 1907 two blocks east of United States Highway 77.  It is the only courthouse serving the county thus Guthrie is the only county seat.  Patrick Henry Weathers designed this building.  An Annex supports the courthouse from 1926, originally a hospital.  The county was organized on May 2, 1890 as an original county (7th county) County Number 1.  It was renamed for Civil War General John A. Logan.  Guthrie was the original capital of the Oklahoma Territory and the first state capital.  Kansas Judge, John Guthrie is the namesake for the county seat. 

Logan County government consists of a sheriff and 3 Commissioners.  Five District Court Judges serve Logan and Payne counties.  The county is just north of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.  The Cimarron River crosses the county from west to east and makes the border with Payne County on the northeast side.  The county center is 1.9 miles North-Northwest of Guthrie.  The county is surrounded clockwise by Noble, Payne, Lincoln, Oklahoma, Canadian, Kingfisher, and Garfield counties. 

The area of the county is 745 square miles.  It is 46 out of 77 in the state.  It ranks 15 out of 77 in population in the state.  It has a density of 66.5 persons per square mile making it 14 out of 77 in the state.  Logan County has 31.0% of its population in its incorporated areas.  Interstate Highway 35 goes from Payne County, northeast, to Oklahoma County, south.  United States Highway 77 parallels Interstate Highway 35 but enters from Noble County on the north before joining Interstate Highway 35 to go south into Oklahoma County.  The county is “capital L” shaped.  Guthrie is in the southern half of the county.  Guthrie is the county seat and the largest city.  It is 21.7% of the county population.  This county is in the Oklahoma City Metropolitan Statistical Area.
