The courthouse made of red brick was built in 1926.  Architect Maurice Jayne gave the original design to the Classical Revival structure.  It is located at Fourth and Main (United States Highway 412) streets.  Although the county was organized on November 16, 1907, this is only courthouse to serve the county therefore Guymon has been the only county seat.  The county was originally part of Beaver County before becoming the 71st county.  Texas County was named for the neighboring state.  The county seat was named for E. T. Guymon, uncle of the town’s first businessman. 

Texas County government consists of a sheriff and 3 Commissioners.  Five District Court Judges serve Texas, Beaver, Cimarron, and Harper counties.  The county is located in the Oklahoma panhandle between Kansas, to the north, and Texas, to the south.  Amarillo, Texas is southwest of the county.  The Beaver River goes west to east in the county.  The county center is 12.5 miles North-Northeast of Guymon nearer Straight.  The county is surrounded clockwise by Kansas and Beaver County and Texas and Cimarron County. 

The area of the county is 2037 square miles.  It is 2 out of 77 in the state.  It ranks 39 out of 77 in population in the state.  It has a density of 10.5 persons per square mile making it 58 out of 77 in the state.  Texas County has 83.5% of its population in its incorporated areas.  United States Highway 54 crosses diagonally from Kansas, north, to Texas, south.  United States Highway 56 cuts the extreme northwest corner from Kansas into Cimarron County.  United States Highway 64 comes from Beaver County on the east, joins United States Highway 54, splits at Guymon, and goes west into Cimarron County.  United States Highway 412 enters from Beaver County, joins United States Highway 64 at Guymon, and continues into Cimarron County.  The county is a large rectangle.  Guymon is slightly south of the center in the county.  Guymon is the county seat and the largest city.  It is 60.6% of the county population.  This county is in the Guymon Micropolitan Statistical Area.
