The Italianate 1883 courthouse was remodeled in 1930.  It is located on Penn Street at 2nd Street.  Pennsylvania State Highway 26 is 2nd Street in the town.  Milton Earl Beebe is the building designer.  An Annex has been added to support the courthouse.  The county was established on September 20, 1787 from Bedford County as the 18th county with Huntingdon as the only county seat.  Huntingdon County and its county seat are named for the Countess of Huntingdon.  Huntingdon County is the birthplace of 1 Pennsylvania governor, Martin G. Brumbaugh. 

Huntingdon County government consists of a sheriff and 3 Commissioners.  Two Common Pleas Court Judges and Three Magistrate Court Judges serve Huntingdon County.  Huntingdon County is in southern Pennsylvania.  Harrisburg, Pennsylvania is northeast and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania is northwest of the county.  The county center is 11.7 miles South of Huntingdon nearer Birdville.  The county is surrounded clockwise by Centre, Mifflin, Juniata, Franklin, Fulton, Bedford, and Blair counties. 

The area of the county is 889 square miles.  It is 17 out of 67 in the state.  It ranks 49 out of 67 in population in the state.  It has a density of 49.6 persons per square mile making it 55 out of 67 in the state.  Huntingdon County has 30.7% of its population in its incorporated areas.  Interstate Highway 76 clips the southern tip of the county east to west from Franklin County to Fulton County.  United States Highway 22 goes from the east to west from Mifflin County to Blair County.  United States Highway 522 is joined with United States Highway 22 from Mifflin County, splits and heads south into Fulton County.  Huntingdon County looks like a fish jumping out of the water.  The City of Huntingdon is located in the northern third of the county.  Huntingdon is the county seat and the largest city.  It is 15.5% of the county population.  This county is in the Huntingdon Micropolitan Statistical Area.
