The Classical Revival is the 1910 tan brick and stone courthouse.  Two courthouses (1891 and 1910) have been in Crowell since Foard County was founded on January 1, 1891.  McDonald Brothers designed the current structure.  There was a dome on this courthouse until a tornado in 1942 tore it off.  United States Highway 70 and Texas State Highway 6 intersect at the courthouse on the city square.  The county was formed from parts of Cottle, King, and Knox counties as the 242nd county.  Foard County is named for Robert J. Foard, a lawyer and officer in the Confederate Army.  Crowell got its name from George T. Crowell who was the original owner of the land where the city is located.
