The Modern tan and red brick courthouse was the design of Atcheson and Atkinson.  It was built in 1955 in Littlefield after Olton had served as the home of the two courthouses for the county since its August 21, 1876 founding.  The building sits at 6th and Phelps, seven blocks west of United States Highway 385.  There was a 1930 courthouse earlier in Littlefield.  The building was renovated in 2015.  Lamb County was created from Bexar County as the 203rd county.  Lamb was named for George A. Lamb, who died at the Battle of San Jacinto.  Littlefield derives its name from Major George W. Littlefield.  He was a Civil War veteran, benefactor to the University of Texas, and founder of the City of Littlefield. 

Lamb County government consists of a sheriff, a County Judge, and 4 Commissioners.  One District Court Judge and One County Court Judge serve Lamb County.  The county is situated in the panhandle northwest of Lubbock, Texas.  The county center is 17.4 miles North of Littlefield nearer Earth.  The county is surrounded clockwise by Castro, Hale, Lubbock, Hockley, Cochran, Bailey, and Parmer counties. 

The area of the county is 1016 square miles.  It is 70 out of 254 in the state.  It ranks 148 out of 254 in population in the state.  It has a density of 12.8 persons per square mile making it 159 out of 254 in the state.  Lamb County has 81.3% of its population in its incorporated areas.  United States Highway 70 goes from east to west, Hale County to Bailey County.  United States Highway 84 crosses diagonally from Bailey County in the west to Hockley County in the south.  United States Highway 385 goes from Castro County, north, into Hockley County, south.  The county is a tall rectangle with Littlefield in the south third of the county.  Littlefield is the county seat and the largest city.  It is 45.7% of the county population.
