The Modern tan stone and concrete courthouse at Broadnax and Truit streets was built in 1971 replacing the only other courthouse (1881) in Daingerfield.  The location is north of the center of the city on United States Highway 259 (Broadnax Street).  Pierce, Pace & Associates designed this building.  The county was organized on January 12, 1875 from Titus County as the 168th county.  Morris County was named for William Wright Morris, an early legislator and judge.  Daingerfield was named for London Daingerfield, who was a Captain in the frontier troops. 

Morris County government consists of a sheriff, a County Judge, and 4 Commissioners.  One District Court Judge serves Morris, Camp, and Titus counties, One District Court Judge serves Morris, Camp, Marion, and Titus counties and One County Court Judge serves Morris County.  The county is in far northeast Texas, west of Texarkana, Texas and northeast of Dallas, Texas.  The Sulphur River is the entire northern border.  The county center is 10.3 miles Northwest of Daingerfield nearer Omaha.  The county is surrounded clockwise by Bowie, Cass, Marion, Upshur, Camp, Titus, and Red River counties. 

The area of the county is 254 square miles.  It is 250 out of 254 in the state.  It ranks 154 out of 254 in population in the state.  It has a density of 47.1 persons per square mile making it 81 out of 254 in the state.  Morris County has 52.1% of its population in its incorporated areas.  Interstate Highway 30 crosses from Bowie County, northeast, into Titus County, west.  United States Highway 67 parallels Interstate Highway 30 but comes from Cass County before going into Titus County.  United States Highway 259 crosses north to south, Bowie County to Upshur County.  Shaped like a tall glass, Daingerfield in the southern third of the county.  Daingerfield is the county seat and the largest city.  It is 21.0% of the county population.  The county seat is pronounced DANE-JER-FEELD.
