A tan brick and stone Texas Renaissance courthouse in Reagan County was built in 1927.  It is sited on the square at Plaza and 3rd streets.  The location is two blocks north of United States Highway 67.  David S. Castle provided the courthouse designs.  A 1957 one story Annex is attached to the courthouse.  Stiles had the first two courthouses for the county after its January 1, 1903 founding.  The county seat moved to Big Lake in 1925.  The county was formed from Tom Green County as the 244th county.  Reagan County was named for John H. Reagan, Texas and United States Congressman and first Railroad Commissioner.  The county seat was named for a nearby lakebed. 

Reagan County government consists of a sheriff, a County Judge, and 4 Commissioners.  One District Court Judge serves Reagan, Crockett, Pecos, Sutton, and Upton counties and One County Court Judge serves Reagan County.  The county is in far West Texas south of Odessa, Texas.  The Concho River goes west to east through the county.  The county center is 11.9 miles North-Northwest of Big Lake nearer Stiles.  The county is surrounded clockwise by Glasscock, Sterling, Tom Green, Irion, Crockett, Upton, and Midland counties. 

The area of the county is 1175 square miles.  It is 41 out of 254 in the state.  It ranks 213 out of 254 in population in the state.  It has a density of 2.9 persons per square mile making it 222 out of 254 in the state.  Reagan County has 87.7% of its population in its incorporated areas.  United States Highway 67 comes from the east, Irion County, and goes to the west, Upton County.  The county is rectangular with Big Lake in the southern quarter of the county.  Big Lake is the county seat and the largest city since it is the only incorporated city.  It is 87.7% of the county population.  The county is pronounced RAE-GAN.
