The tan brick Renaissance Revival courthouse, built in 1937, has numerous levels and extensions.  Although this is a West Texas courthouse, it is definitely not the norm for this area.  It is located on a square at Cedar and 6th streets.  The site is three blocks south of the intersection of United States Highway 285 (Cedar Street) and Interstate Highway 20.  Interstate Highway 20 bypasses the center of the city to the south.  The architects are Trost & Trost.  Pecos has had both courthouses for the county since its January 1, 1883 formation, the previous one was built in 1886.  The county was carved from Pecos County as the 225th county.  Reeves County was named for Confederate Colonel George R. Reeves.  The county seat was named for the Pecos River.  Pecos County has the same name origin.

Reeves County government consists of a sheriff, a County Judge, and 4 Commissioners.  One District Court Judge serves Reeves, Loving, and Ward counties and Two County Court Judges serve Reeves County.  The county is located in far west Texas east of El Paso, Texas and southwest of Odessa, Texas.  The Pecos River serves as the west and north borders of the county.  The county center is 17.3 miles West of Pecos nearer Toyah.  The county is surrounded clockwise by Loving, Ward, Pecos, Jeff Davis, and Culberson counties and New Mexico.
