The original courthouse structure was built in 1895 but after three remodeling, the latest being in 1990, the current appearance is Modern.  It is located on the square at 1st and Edwards streets.  The site is six blocks west of United States Highway 271 crossing north and south through the city.  Interstate Highway 30 passes north of the main part of Mount Pleasant.  F. B. Hull and W. S. Hull were the original architects.  An Annex was converted from a commercial building in 1990.  There were five courthouses for Titus County, all in Mount Pleasant, since the March 1, 1846 founding.  The county was carved out of Bowie and Red River counties as the 53rd county.  Titus County is named for Andrew Jackson Titus, a Texas legislator and Mexican War hero.  Mount Pleasant is a geographic term for the nearby wooded hills. 

The area of the county is 411 square miles.  It is 242 out of 254 in the state.  It ranks 91 out of 254 in population in the state.  It has a density of 76.0 persons per square mile making it 58 out of 254 in the state.  Titus County has 54.6% of its population in its incorporated areas.  Interstate Highway 30 goes east to west, Morris County to Franklin County.  United States Highway 67 parallels Interstate Highway 30 from Morris County into Franklin County.  United States Highway 271 crosses from the northeast corner of Franklin County to the south into Camp County.  The county is shaped like an upside-down U with the Sulphur River as the north border and the Caddo River as the south border.  Mount Pleasant is in the southern third of the county.  Mount Pleasant is the county seat and the largest city.  It is 51.5% of the county population. 

Titus County government consists of a sheriff, a County Judge, and 4 Commissioners.  One District Court Judge serves Titus, Camp, and Morris counties, One District Court Judge serves Titus, Camp, Marion, and Morris counties, and One County Court Judge serves Titus County.  Titus County is northeast of Dallas, Texas and west of Texarkana, Texas in northeast Texas.  The county center is 5.2 miles North of Mount Pleasant.  The county is surrounded clockwise by Red River, Morris, Camp, and Franklin counties.  This county is in the Mount Pleasant Micropolitan Statistical Area.
