The Modern grey brick and concrete facility was erected in 2003 to replace a classic 1883 courthouse.  The courthouse is on North 100 West at West 200 North.  United States Highway 89 is one block to the east.  The courthouse was designed by VCBO Architecture.  An Administration Building was also built in 2003.  The county was established on January 5, 1856 as the 14th county with Logan as the only county seat.  The county is named for the Cache River.  Logan is named for fur trapper Ephraim Logan. 

Cache County government consists of a sheriff, an Executive, and 5 Commissioners.  Three District Court Judges and One Juvenile Court Judge serve Cache, Box Elder, and Rich counties.  Cache County is on the northern border with Idaho.  Salt Lake City, Utah is south and Boise, Idaho is northwest of the county.  The county center is 5.5 miles East-Northeast of Logan.  The county is surrounded clockwise by Idaho and Rich, Weber, and Box Elder counties. 

The area of the county is 1165 square miles.  It is 22 out of 29 in the state.  It ranks 6 out of 29 in population in the state.  It has a density of 114.3 persons per square mile making it 5 out of 29 in the state.  Cache County has 94.6% of its population in its incorporated areas.  United States Highway 89 enters from Rich County, east, and exits into Box Elder County, west.  United States Highway 91 comes from the north, Idaho, and joins United States Highway 89 into Box Elder County.  The county resembles a bag of marbles.  Logan is located in the west half of the county.  Logan is the county seat and the largest city.  It is 39.6% of the county population.  The county is pronounced KASH.  This county is in the Logan Metropolitan Statistical Area.
