The Modern red brick and stone courthouse replaced a wooden facility in Manila.  The structure is at the intersection of 1st West and 1st North streets.  Utah State Highway 43 is one block south.  The courthouse was built in 1978 and designed by Ken Stevenson.  Metal shaped into deer are on the grounds.  The county was organized on January 7, 1918 from Uintah County as the 29th and last county.  Manila has always been the county seat.  Daggett County is named for surveyor Ellsworth Daggett.  The county seat is named for the Spanish American War victory at Manila, Philippines. 

Daggett County government consists of a sheriff and 3 Commissioners.  Four District Court Judges and Two Juvenile Court Judges serve Daggett, Duchesne, and Uintah counties.  The county is in the northeast corner on the border with both Wyoming and Colorado.  Salt Lake City, Utah is northwest and Grand Junction, Colorado is southeast of the county.  The county center is 48.2 miles Southeast of Manila nearer Red Canyon.  The county is surrounded clockwise by Wyoming and Colorado and Uintah, Duchesne, and Summit counties. 

The area of the county is 697 square miles.  It is 26 out of 29 in the state.  It ranks 29 out of 29 in population in the state.  It has a density of 1.3 persons per square mile making it 27 out of 29 in the state.  Daggett County has 47.8% of its population in its incorporated areas.  United States Highway 191 passes north to south in the county from Wyoming to Uintah County.  The county resembles a capital letter F lying on its face.  Manila is located on the northwest border of the county.  Manila is the county seat and the largest city since it is the only incorporated city.  It is 33.0% of the county population.  The county is pronounced DAG-GET.  The county seat is pronounced MA-NIL-A.
