The tan concrete and glass courthouse was built in 2012 to replace the 1890 structure.  The facility is on State Street at Main Street.  Interstate Highway 15 is four blocks to the west of the building.  Blalock and Partners designed this Modern building.  A 1991 Justice Complex augments the courthouse.  The county was created on October 5, 1850 as an original county (7th county) with Farmington as the only county seat.  The county is named for Mexican War hero Daniel C. Davis.  Farmington is named for the local agriculture.  Davis County is the birthplace of 3 Utah Governors, Charles R. Mabey, Henry H. Blood, and Calvin L. Rampton. 

Davis County government consists of a sheriff and 3 Commissioners.  Fifteen District Court Judges and Five Juvenile Court Judges serve Davis, Morgan, and Weber counties.  Davis County is in the northwest part of Utah.  Salt Lake City, Utah is south and Boise, Idaho is northwest of the county.  The county center is 8.1 miles West-Northwest of Farmington nearer Kaysville.  The county is surrounded clockwise by Weber, Morgan, Salt Lake, Tooele, and Box Elder counties. 

The area of the county is 299 square miles.  It is 29 out of 29 in the state.  It ranks 3 out of 29 in population in the state.  It has a density of 1213.0 persons per square mile making it 2 out of 29 in the state.  Davis County has 99.0% of its population in its incorporated areas.  Interstate Highway 15 travels north to south through the county from Weber County to Salt Lake County.  Interstate Highway 84 clips the north from Morgan County, east, to Weber County, north.  United States Highway 89 is joined with Interstate Highway 15 from Weber to Salt Lake counties.  The county looks like a small letter r facing down.  Farmington is located in the southeast quarter of the county.  Layton is northwest of Farmington.  Farmington is the county seat and Layton is the largest city.  Farmington is 6.8% of the county population while Layton is 22.6% of the county population.  This county is in the Ogden Metropolitan Statistical Area.
