The current Classical Revival dark red brick courthouse replaced an 1855 version of the courthouse. The structure is on Utah State Highway 99 between West 500 South and West 900 South streets. Utah State Highway 99 is Interstate Highway 15 Business in the town. The courthouse was built in 1921 using the designs of Rutherford & Ashton. A Judicial Center was added in 1983. The county was founded on October 4, 1851 from Iron County as the 8th county with Fillmore as the only county seat. Millard County and its county seat are named for United States President Millard Fillmore.
Millard County government consists of a sheriff and 3 Commissioners. Fourteen District Court Judges and Fourteen Juvenile Court Judges serve Millard, Juab, Utah, and Wasatch counties. The county is on the western border with Nevada. Salt Lake City, Utah is northeast and Las Vegas, Nevada is southwest of the county. The county center is 39.6 miles West of Fillmore nearer Deseret. The county is surrounded clockwise by Juab, Sanpete, Sevier, and Beaver counties and Nevada.
The area of the county is 6828 square miles. It is 3 out of 29 in the state. It ranks 18 out of 29 in population in the state. It has a density of 1.83 persons per square mile making it 25 out of 29 in the state. Millard County has 71.7% of its population in its incorporated areas. Interstate Highway 15 crosses the county from north to south from Juab County to Beaver County. Interstate Highway 70 enters the county from the southeast, Sevier County, and terminates. United States Highway 6 comes in from Juab County, north, and goes into Nevada, west. United States Highway 50 enters from the east, Sevier County, and joins United States Highway 6 into Nevada. The county resembles a block head facing east. Fillmore is located in the eastern quarter of the county. Delta is in the northeast quarter of the county. Fillmore is the county seat and Delta is the largest city. Fillmore is 19.5% of the county population while Delta is 27.5% of the county population.
