The tan brick Modern structure was erected in 1959. It replaced an 1887 facility. The facility is on Young Street between State and 100 West streets. Utah State Highway 66 is State Street. Lawrence D. Olpin provided the building designs. The county was established on January 17, 1862 as the 15th county. Weber City (1862), Littleton (1866), and Morgan (1868) have all been the county seat. The county and county seat are named for Mormon leader Jedediah Morgan Grant.
Morgan County government consists of a sheriff and 3 Commissioners. Fifteen District Court Judges and Five Juvenile Court Judges serve Morgan, Davis, and Weber counties. Morgan County is in the northern part of Utah. Salt Lake City, Utah is southwest and Boise, Idaho is northwest of the county. The county center is 4.1 miles East of Morgan. The county is surrounded clockwise by Weber, Rich, Summit, Salt Lake, and Davis counties.
The area of the county is 609 square miles. It is 27 out of 29 in the state. It ranks 19 out of 29 in population in the state. It has a density of 20.2 persons per square mile making it 9 out of 29 in the state. Morgan County has 33.1% of its population in its incorporated areas. Interstate Highway 84 crosses east to west in the county from Summit County to Weber County. The county resembles a sea horse facing northwest. The City of Morgan is located in the western quarter of the county. Morgan is the county seat and, as the only incorporated city, it is the largest city. It is 33.1% of the county population. This county is in the Ogden Metropolitan Statistical Area.
