The Modern concrete and glass courthouse replaced an 1876 facility. The new structure was built in 1981 using the designs of Willard C. Nelson and Associates. The facility is located at the intersection of 200 East and 200 North streets. Interstate Highway 15 Business is one block to the north of the location. A 1966 Administration Building supports the courthouse. The county was created on March 3, 1852 as the 10th county. Washington was the county seat until 1863 when Saint George took over. Washington County is named for United States President George Washington. The county seat was named for Mormon leader George Albert Smith.
