A 2015 Modern brick courthouse replaced a classier courthouse built in 1851. The courthouse is on Princess Anne Street at Charlotte Street. Moseley Architects and Glave & Holmes Architecture combined on the designs. United States Highway 1 is Princess Anne Street. The structure features a tower and metal roofing. The City of Fredericksburg was created on January 1, 1789 from Spotsylvania County as the 67th county equivalent. There was a 1740 courthouse also. The city is named for Frederick, Prince of Wales. He is also the namesake for Frederick County. Fredericksburg City is the birthplace to 2 Virginia Governors, Robert Brooke and John M. Patton.
