The classic white brick Greek Revival courthouse was built in 1834.  The facility is on Court Street at Page Street.  United States Highway 211 Business is one block to the north of the site.  William B. Phillips is the building designer.  The facility was enlarged in 1974 and 1997.  The courthouse features a tower with veteran memorials on the grounds.  An Administration Building was built in 2014.  The county was founded on January 15, 1831 from Shenandoah and Rockingham counties as the 83rd county.  Luray has always been the county seat.  It is named for Governor John Page.  Luray is named for Luray, France. 

The area of the county is 314 square miles.  It is 69 out of 133 in the state.  It ranks 70 out of 133 in population in the state.  It has a density of 76.56 persons per square mile making it 77 out of 133 in the state.  Page County has 37.3% of its population in its incorporated areas.  United States Highway 211 comes into the county from the northwest, Rappahannock County, and goes to the west, Shenandoah County.  United States Highway 340 comes from Warren County, northeast, and goes to Rockingham County, southwest.  The county is a diagonal line going northeast to southwest.  Luray is located near the center of the county.  Luray is the county seat and the largest city.  Luray is 20.4% of the county population. 

Page County government consists of a sheriff and 6 Supervisors.  Six Circuit Court Judges and Eleven District Court Judges serve Page, Clarke, Frederick, Rockingham, Shenandoah, and Warren counties and Harrisonburg and Winchester cities and Forty-two Magistrate Court Judges serve Page, Albemarle, Clarke, Culpeper, Fauquier, Fluvanna, Frederick, Goochland, Greene, Loudoun, Louisa, Madison, Orange, Rappahannock, Rockingham, Shenandoah, and Warren counties and Charlottesville, Harrisonburg, and Winchester cities.  The county is in the northwest part of the state.  Alexandria, Virginia is east and Richmond, Virginia is southeast of the county.  The county center is 4 miles Southwest of Luray nearer Leakesville.  The county is surrounded clockwise by Warren, Rappahannock, Madison, Greene, Rockingham, and Shenandoah counties.  The county seat is pronounced LOO-RAE.
