The Modern red brick facility was built in 1998 to replace a classier stone structure.  The structure is on the corner of Robertson and Unruh streets.  Virginia State Highway 232 passes 1 block east of the site.  Thomson and Litton provided the building designs.  The city was created on July 10, 1902 from parts of Montgomery and Pulaski counties as the 108th county equivalent.  The city is named for settler John Blair Radford. 

Radford City government consists of a sheriff, a Mayor, and 4 Council Members.  Six Circuit Court Judges and Nine District Court Judges serve Radford City and Bland, Carroll, Floyd, Giles, Grayson, Montgomery, Pulaski, and Wythe counties and Galax City and Fifty-three Magistrate Court Judges serve Radford City and Bland, Buchanan, Carroll, Dickenson, Floyd, Giles, Grayson, Lee, Montgomery, Pulaski, Russell, Scott, Smyth, Tazewell, Washington, Wise, and Wythe counties and Bristol, Galax, and Norton cities.  The city is in southwest Virginia.  Roanoke, Virginia is northeast and Charleston, West Virginia is northwest of the city.  The city center is in Radford 2.4 miles East-Southeast of downtown.  The city is surrounded clockwise by Montgomery and Pulaski counties. 

The area of the city is 10 square miles.  It is 120 out of 133 in the state.  It ranks 92 out of 133 in population in the state.  It has a density of 1606.8 persons per square mile making it 25 out of 133 in the state.  Radford has 100.0% of its population in its incorporated city limits.  There are no Interstates or United States Highways in the city.  The city is shaped like a Volkswagon Beetle.   This city is in the Blacksburg-Christiansburg-Radford Metropolitan Statistical Area.
