The Neo-Classical masonry structure was completed in 1931.  The courthouse is on 10th Avenue between State and Wells streets.  Interstate Highway 45 is one block to the east of the site.  Albert Randolph Ross is the architect.  The courthouse features columns and veteran memorials on the grounds.  A classier facility was built in 1873.  The county was established on January 1, 1834 as an original county (4th county) with Milwaukee as the only county seat.  The county and county are Native American meaning “good land.”  Milwaukee County is the birthplace of 3 Wisconsin Governors, Fred R. Zimmerman, Martin J. Schreiber, and Lee S. Dreyfus. 

Milwaukee County government consists of a sheriff and 18 Supervisors.  Fourteen Circuit Court Judge and One Municipal Court Judge serve Milwaukee County.  The county is on the southeast border of the state.  Madison, Wisconsin is west and Green Bay, Wisconsin is northwest of the county.  The county center is in Milwaukee 1.3 miles West of the city center.  The county is surrounded clockwise by Ozaukee County and Michigan and Racine, Waukesha, and Washington counties. 

The area of the county is 241.1 square miles.  It is 70 out of 72 in the state.  It ranks 1 out of 72 in population in the state.  It has a density of 3891.9 persons per square mile making it 1 out of 72 in the state.  Milwaukee County has 100.0% of its population in its incorporated areas.  Interstate Highway 43 enters the county from the north, Ozaukee County, and exits to the southwest, Waukesha County.  Interstate Highway 94 comes from the Waukesha County, west, and goes to Racine County, south.  United States Highway 18 originates and parallels Interstate Highway 94 into Waukesha County.  United States Highway 41 enters from the northwest, Waukesha County, and joins Interstate Highway 94 into Racine County.  United States Highway 45 is joined with United States Highway 41 from Waukesha County, splits and continues southwest into Racine County.  The county looks like a rectangle with the eastern border a three-extension line.  The City of Milwaukee dominates the central through northwest part of the county and extends into Washington and Waukesha counties.  Milwaukee is the county seat and the largest city.  It is 61.4% of the county population.  The county and county seat are pronounced MIL-WA-KEE.  This county is in the Milwaukee-Waukesha-West Allis Metropolitan Statistical Area.
