The red/brown brick Classical Revival facility was completed in 1932.  The courthouse is on Sage Avenue, Topaz Street, Beech Avenue, and Garnet Street.  Headland & Watkins were the architects.  United States Highway 30 is two blocks to the east of the site.  The building was remodeled in 1985.  The structure features a dome and columns.  Lady Justice sits on top of the dome.  Lincoln County was formed on February 21, 1911 from Uinta County as the 18th county with Kemmerer as the only county seat.  The county is named for United States President Abraham Lincoln.  The county seat was named for settler M. S. Kemmerer.  Lincoln County is the birthplace of 1 Wyoming Governor, Edgar J. Herschler. 

Lincoln County government consists of a sheriff and 3 Commissioners.  Two District Court Judges and Three Circuit Court Judges serve Lincoln, Sweetwater, and Uinta counties.  The county is located on the western border with both Idaho and Utah.  Casper, Wyoming is northeast and Cheyenne, Wyoming is southeast of the county.  The county center is 25.8 miles North-Northwest of Kemmerer nearer Hamsfork.  The county is surrounded clockwise by Teton, Sublette, Sweetwater, and Uinta counties and Utah and Idaho. 

The area of the county is 4069 square miles.  It is 11 out of 23 in the state.  It ranks 11 out of 23 in population in the state.  It has a density of 4.8 persons per square mile making it 9 out of 23 in the state.  Lincoln County has 48.7% of its population in its incorporated areas.  United States Highway 26 enters the county from the north, Teton County, and exits to the west, Idaho.  United States Highway 30 comes in from Sweetwater County, east, and goes into Idaho, west.  United States Highway 89 is joined with United States Highway 26 from Teton County, splits and continues southwest into Idaho.  United States Highway 189 originates and goes east into Sublette County, reenters and exits south into Uinta County.  United States Highway 191 is joined with United States Highway 26 from Teton County, splits and joins United States Highway 189 into Sublette County.  The county looks like a capital letter L.  Kemmerer is located in the southeast quarter of the county.  Kemmerer is the county seat and the largest city.  It is 12.3% of the county population.  The county seat is pronounced KEM-MUR-UR.
