The tall working clock tower dominates this yellow brick building.  The 1902 Neo-Classical Revival structure is located on Court Square between Chestnut and Walnut streets.  United States Highway 82 is two blocks west of the location.  It was designed by William S. Hull.  The grounds feature veteran memorials.  An annex supports the courthouse.  Antioch was the county seat earlier in the county.  Bibb County is named for Governor William W. Bibb.  Centreville is a geographical name.  The county was formed on February 7, 1818 from Montgomery County as the 16th county and named Cahawba County and renamed in 1820. 

Bibb County government consists of a sheriff, revenue commissioner, and coroner (executive).  It has 5 commissioners (legislative.)  Four Circuit Judges serves Bibb, Dallas, Hale, Perry and Wilcox counties and District Judge, a Probate Judge, a District Attorney, and a County Clerk serve Bibb County (judicial.)  The county is in the central part of the state just to the southwest of Birmingham, Alabama.  The center of the county is 7.9 miles North of Centreville nearer West Blocton.  The county is surrounded clockwise by Jefferson, Shelby, Chilton, Perry, Hale, and Tuscaloosa counties.  Centreville is in the south center of the county.  Brent is located adjacent to Centreville on the southwest.  Centreville, the county seat, is 12.5% of the county population.  Brent is the largest city and is 13.4% of the county population. 

The county has an area of 626 square miles.  It ranks 46 out of 67 in size.  It ranks 45 out of 67 in population in the state.  It has a density of 35.3 persons per square mile making it 43 out of 67 in the state.  Bibb County has 44.0% of its population in its incorporated areas.  United States Highway 82 crosses the county southeast to northwest from Chilton County to Tuscaloosa County.  The county is shaped like a 3-tiered cake.  The county is in the Birmingham-Hoover Metropolitan Statistical Area.
