The metal building houses the borough courthouse.  The courthouse is at Brueger and McKinnan.  Wrangell Borough was created on May 30, 2008 as the 18th borough.  The borough gets its name from the Baron Ferdinand Wrangel. 

Wrangell Borough government consists of a sheriff, financial director, a manager, district attorney, and a clerk (executive).  It has 6 assembly members (legislative.)  Five Superior Judges and Three District Judges serve the First Judicial District which includes the Wrangell Borough (judicial.)  The borough is located in the Alaskan panhandle.  It touches the Pacific Ocean.  The center of the borough is 1.5 miles West-Northwest of Wrangell offshore.  The borough is surrounded Canada and Prince of Wales-Hyder Census Area and Petersburg Borough.  

The area of the borough is 2556 square miles.  It is 26 of 30 in size.  It ranks 24 out of 30 in population in the state.  It has a density of 0.81 persons per square mile making it 14 out of 30 in the state.  Wrangell Borough has 100% of its population in its incorporated areas.  The borough and seat are combined into a single government.  There are no Interstates or United States Highways in the Borough.  The borough is pronounced RAN-GEL.
