The small dome on this masonry courthouse, built in 1914, stands out in this community. It is located at the intersection of Spring and 4th streets. Arizona State Highway 9 is 3 blocks south of the site. The courthouse designer is Lescher & Kibbey in a Neo-Classical style. The building has been enlarged. Veteran memorials are in front of the courthouse. The county is one of the original four created counties in the state. It was formed on November 9, 1864 as the 1st county. Mohave County is named for the Native American tribe. Kingman is named for railroad engineer, Lewis Kingman. Mohave City, Hardyville, Cerbat and Mineral Park have also served as county seats.

The county is surrounded clockwise by Utah and Coconino, Yavapai, and La Paz counties and California and Nevada. The county is shaped like the small letter q. Kingman is the southern third of the county. The largest city is located in the extreme southwest corner of the county. Kingman is the county seat and Lake Havasu City is the largest city. Kingman is 15.3% of the county population while Lake Havasu City is 26.8% of the county population. The county is pronounced MOE-HA-VEE. The largest city is pronounced LAEK HAV-A-SUE.
The area of the county is 13470 square miles. It is 3 of 15 in size. It ranks 5 out of 15 in population in the state. It has a density of 15.8 persons per square mile making it 7 out of 15 in the state. Mohave County has 62.7% of its population in its incorporated areas. Interstate Highway 15 cuts the extreme north part of the county from Utah, north, to Nevada, west. Interstate Highway 40 crosses the county east to west, from Yavapai County to California. United States Highway 93 crosses diagonally from northwest to southeast, Nevada to Yavapai County. The county is in the Lake Havasu City-Kingman Metropolitan Statistical Area.
