The light brick of the structure gives it a standard courthouse appearance.  The 1936 building is located at Lucust and Main Streets, one block south of Arkansas State Highway 60.  Wittenberg and Delony were the building designers for this Colonial Revival and Art Deco style courthouse.  Additions were made in 1970 and 1993.  Another courthouse was also located in Conway.  Colonel Sanford C. Faulkner, fiddle player and creator of the song “Arkansas Traveler”, is the source of the county’s name.  The county seat got its title from Congressman Henry Wharton Conway.  He also provided his name to Conway County.  Conway has been the only county seat.  On April 12, 1873 the county was formed from Conway and Pulaski counties as the 68th county. 

Faulkner County government consists of a sheriff, assessor, treasurer, and coroner (executive).  It has 13 Quorum Court members (legislative.)  Five Circuit Court Judges serve Faulkner, Searcy, and Van Buren counties and Two District Court Judges, an Attorney, and a County Clerk serve Faulkner County (judicial.)  The county is located in the center of the state with Little Rock, Arkansas to the Southeast.  The center of the county is 4.1 miles East-Northeast of Conway.  The county is surrounded clockwise by Cleburne, White, Lonoke, Pulaski, Perry, Conway, and Van Buren counties.  The Arkansas River forms the southwest border of the county.  The county is rectangular except for the southern border, which has three steps from east to west meeting the river to wander northwest.  Conway is in the southwest quarter of the county.  Conway is the county seat and the largest city.  It is 51.9% of the county population.  The county is pronounced FULK-NUR.  

The area of the county is 664.0 square miles.  It is 37 of 75 in size.  It ranks 5 out of 75 in population in the state.  It has a density of 186.0 persons per square mile making it 5 out of 75 in the state.  Faulkner County has 64.3% of its population in its incorporated areas.  Interstate Highway 40 comes from Pulaski County, south, and goes into Conway County, west.  United States Highway 64 enters from White County on the east, parallels Interstate Highway 40 beginning at Conway, and exits into Conway County on the west.  United States Highway 65 comes from the north, Van Buren County, joins Interstate Highway 40 at Conway, and goes south into Pulaski County.  The county is in the Little Rock-North Little Rock-Conway Metropolitan Statistical Area.
