The very nice masonry, domed Classical Revival style courthouse looks its part. The facility is on a square surrounded by Court, 10th, Main, and 11th streets. Interstate Highway 25 is three blocks east of the structure. This courthouse was built in 1912 to replace the 1872 facility in Pueblo, the only county seat. The courthouse was renovated in 1976. It features columns and a Statue of Liberty sits in front. A Justice Center was built in 1965 and a Judicial Center in 2015. An original Colorado county, Pueblo County was created on November 1, 1861. It is the 14th county. The county and county seat get their names from the Spanish for “town”. The building architects are Albert R. Ross and George W. Roe. The center of the county is in Pueblo .6 miles Southeast of the city center.

Interstate Highway 25 crosses the county north to south, El Paso County to Huerfano County. United States Highway 50 goes east to west from Otero County to Fremont County. United States Highways 85/87 are joined with Interstate Highway 25 from El Paso County to Huerfano County. The county’s shape is a fat plow. The City of Pueblo is in the northwest quadrant of the county. Pueblo is the county seat and the largest city. It is 66.5% of the county population. The county and county seat are pronounced PWEB-LOE. The county is in the Pueblo Metropolitan Statistical Area.
