A tan brick and concrete structure was built in 1938.  The facility is located on Cedar, 3rd, Pine, and 4th streets.  United States Highway 385 is two blocks southeast of the building.  W. Gordon Jamieson and R. Ewing Stiffler are the architects of this Art Deco style building.  Veteran memorials are on the grounds.  There was a 1905 courthouse also in Julesburg, the only county seat.  Sedgwick County is formed on April 9, 1889 from Weld County as the 49th county.  General John Sedgwick gave his name to Fort Sedgwick which is the namesake of the county.  Trader Jules Beni provided the inspiration for the county seat name.  The center of the county is 13 miles Southwest of Julesburg nearer Ovid. 

Sedgwick County government consists of a sheriff, assessor, manager, coroner, and treasurer (executive).  It has 3 Commissioners (legislative.)  Four District Court Judges serve Sedgwick, Kit Carson, Logan, Morgan, Phillips, Washington, and Yuma counties and a Trial Court Judge, clerk, and county attorney serve Sedgwick County (judicial.)  The county is in the northeast corner of the state bordering Nebraska on both the northern and eastern borders.  The South Platte River flows through the county.  The county is surrounded clockwise by Nebraska and Phillips and Logan counties.  

The area of the county is 548.8 square miles.  The county is 57 out of 64 in the state.  It ranks 57 out of 64 in population in the state.  It has a density of 4.4 persons per square mile making it 45 out of 64 in the state.  Sedgwick County has 72.8% of its population in its incorporated areas.  Interstate Highway 76 crosses northeast to southwest through the county, Nebraska to Logan County.  United States Highway 138 parallels Interstate Highway 76 from Nebraska to Logan County.  United States Highway 385 crosses north to south, Nebraska to Phillips County.  The county is a rectangle with Julesburg lying on the extreme northern part almost touching the Nebraska border.  Julesburg is the county seat and the largest city.  It is 54.3% of the county population.  The county is pronounced SEJ-WIK.
