The Modern Style concrete and glass building was built in 1972.  It is situated at Park and Fulton streets.  United States Highway 17 is five blocks west of the site.  Gutmann, Dragash, and Matz are the courthouse designers.  It is situated on a lake.  There was a 1913 version of the courthouse in Sanford since Sanford has been the only county seat.  A Justice Center was added in 2004.  The Native American tribe is the namesake of the county.  Settler Henry Sanford is the county seat’s name source.  Seminole County was created on 0. 

Seminole County government consists of a manager, sheriff, and appraiser (executive).  It has 5 Commissioners (legislative.)  Twenty-seven Circuit Court Judges serve Brevard and Seminole counties and Six County Court Judges, clerk, and county attorney serve Seminole County (judicial.) The county is located in the east central part of the state.  The St. Johns River is its east border.  Orlando, Florida is directly south of the county.  The center of the county is 8.9 miles South-Southwest of Sanford nearer Winter Springs.  The county is surrounded clockwise by Volusia, Brevard, Orange, and Lake counties. 

The area of the county is 308 square miles.  It is 64 out of 67 counties in the state.  It ranks 13 out of 67 in population in the state.  It has a density of 1528.8 persons per square mile making it 4 out of 67 in the state.  Seminole County has 52.3% of its population in its incorporated areas.  Interstate Highway 4 comes from Volusia County, north, and goes to Orange County, south.  United States Highways 17/92 parallel Interstate Highway 4 from Volusia County to Orange County.  The county looks like a bowl of ice cream leaning toward the northwest.  Sanford is on the northern border and slightly west.  Sanford is the county seat and the largest city.  It is 13.0% of the county population.  This county is in the Orlando-Kissimmee Metropolitan Statistical Area.
