The red brick Queen Ann and Neo-Classical Revival style courthouse, built in 1894, was remodeled and enlarged in 1914.  It was renovated in 1970 and remodeled again in 2000.  It is located on a square at Courtland, Siebald, East Main, and North Main streets.  United States Highway 301 is North Main.  Alexander C. Bruce and Thomas H. Morgan are the building architects.  A Judicial Annex was added in 1998.  The courthouse features a tower with working clock and columns.  Veteran memorials are on the grounds.  The county was organized on February 8, 1796 as the 21st county.  Stephen Mills (1796) and Statesboro (1803) have served as county seat.  The county was taken from parts of Bryan and Screven counties.  The county was named for Governor Archibald Bulloch.  The county seat is named for the State.  The county center is in Statesboro 2.8 miles South of the city center. 

Bulloch County government consists of a manager, a sheriff, an administrator, a coroner, a clerk, and a tax commissioner (executive).  It has 7 Commissioners (legislative.)  Twenty-one Superior Court Judges serve Bulloch, Appling, Bacon, Brantley, Bryan, Camden, Charlton, Chatham, Coffee, Effingham, Evans, Glynn, Jeff Davis, Jenkins, Liberty, Long, McIntosh, Pierce, Screven, Tattnall, Ware, and Wayne counties and Six County Judges, court clerk, and county attorney serve Bulloch County (judicial.) The county is located in southeast Georgia between the Ogeechee and Canoochee rivers.  Savannah, Georgia is southeast and Augusta, Georgia is north of the county.  The county is surrounded clockwise by Screven, Effingham, Bryan, Evans, Candler, Emanuel, and Jenkins counties. 

The area of the county is 683 square miles.  The county is 7 of 159 in the state.  It ranks 32 out of 159 in population in the state.  It has a density of 116.6 persons per square mile making it 51 out of 159 in the state.  Bulloch County has 45.1% of its population in its incorporated areas.  Interstate Highway 16 crosses east to west in the county from Bryan County to Candler County.  United States Highway 25 goes north to south from Jenkins County to Evans County.  United States Highway 80 parallels Interstate Highway 16 from Bryan County to Candler County.  United States Highway 301 enters from the north, Screven County, and joins United States Highway 25 to the south, Evans County.  The county is shaped like a fat bracket punctuation mark.  Statesboro is slightly northwest of center in the county.  Statesboro is the county seat and the largest city.  It is 42.0% of the county population.  The county is pronounced BULL-UCK.  This county is in the Statesboro Micropolitan Statistical Area.
