The Modern Neo-Classical Revival Justice Center built in 2008 replaced a Neo-Classical Revival courthouse built in 1904. On a city square at Greenville, Jackson, Washington, and Broad streets, United States Highway 29 is Jackson Street. James Wingfield Golucke is the red brick courthouse architect. The courthouse features a tower with a working clock and columns. The grounds have veteran memorials.
Coweta County government consists of a manager, sheriff, an administrator, a coroner, a clerk, and a tax commissioner (executive). It has 5 Commissioners (legislative.) Eighteen Superior Court Judges serve Coweta, Butts, Carroll, Clayton, Fayette, Heard, Henry, Lamar, Meriwether, Monroe, Pike, Spalding, Troup, and Upson counties and Two State Judges and Five County Judges, court clerk, and county attorney serve Coweta County (judicial.) The county is surrounded clockwise by Fulton, Fayette, Spalding, Meriwether, Troup, Heard, and Carroll counties.

Interstate Highway 85 crosses northeast, Fulton County, to southwest, Meriwether County. United States Highway 27 Alternate goes north to south from Carroll County to Meriwether County. United States Highway 29 parallels Interstate Highway 85 from Fulton County but travels into Troup County. The county shape is a plow. There was an 1829 version of the courthouse in Newnan. Bullsboro had the first county seat when the county was established on December 14, 1826 as the 69th county but Newnan replaced it in 1828. The county was created from the Creek Lands. The Koweta Creek Native Americans are the source name for the county. General Daniel Newnan is the county seat’s namesake. Coweta County was the birthplace of 1 Georgia Governor, Ellis G. Arnall. The county center is 7 miles East of Newnan nearer Raymond. Newnan is slightly northwest of center in the county. Newnan is the county seat and the largest city. It is 29.1% of the county population. The county is pronounced KOE-WEE-TA. This county is in the Atlanta-Sandy Springs-Marietta Metropolitan Statistical Area.
