The tan brick Modern Colonial Revival style courthouse sits on Courthouse Square between Maple and Main streets.  Maple and Main are Georgia State Highway 20 in the town.  The facility features columns with veterans memorials and Lady Justice on the grounds.  Forsyth County, organized on December 3, 1832 as the 83rd county with Cumming as the only county seat, has had three courthouses which were built in 1905 and 1977 and the current one built in 2015.  Bert T. Millard is the courthouse architect.  A County Administration building was added in 1996.  The county center is 1.4 miles East-Northeast of Cumming. 

Forsyth County government consists of a manager, a sheriff, an administrator, a coroner, a clerk, and a tax commissioner (executive).  It has 5 Commissioners (legislative.)  Twenty-eight Superior Court Judges serve Forsyth, Cherokee, Dawson, Fannin, Gilmer, Gwinnett, Habersham, Hall, Lumpkin, Pickens, Rabun, Stephens, Towns, Union, and White counties and Two State Judges and Six County Judges, court clerk, and county attorney serve Forsyth County (judicial.) This is another Atlanta metropolitan county located northeast of Atlanta, Georgia.  The county is surrounded clockwise by Dawson, Hall, Gwinnett, Fulton, and Cherokee counties.  Forsyth County was taken from Cherokee County.  The Chattahoochee River is the eastern border of the county.  The county is named for John Forsyth, United States Senator.  He is also the namesake of the county seat of Monroe County.  Lawyer William Cumming provided his name to the county seat. 

The area of the county is 226 square miles.  It is 130 out of 159 in the state.  It ranks 8 out of 159 in population in the state.  It has a density of 1111.9 persons per square mile making it 6 out of 159 in the state.  Forsyth County has 2.9% of its population in its incorporated areas.  United States Highway 19 comes in from the north, Dawson County, and exits to the southwest, Cobb County.  The county seat is a backwards comma.  Cumming is slightly west of center in the county.  Cumming is the county seat and the only incorporated city, thus it is the largest city.  It is 2.9% of the county population.  This county is in the Atlanta-Sandy Springs-Marietta Metropolitan Statistical Area.
