The Modern Neo-Classical Revival style building of columns and brick was built in 1991.  Built on I Street at Union Street, this is the third courthouse after 1827 and 1907 versions.  Hansen Lind Meyer is the building architect.  The 1907 courthouse continues to house county offices.  The old courthouse sits at G and Ellis streets.  United States Highway 25 is two blocks west of the location.  Glynn County is one of the original counties formed on February 5, 1777.  Frederica was the original county seat until 1787 when Brunswick took over.  The county was named for John Glynn, a member of the British Parliament.  The county seat was named for the British House of Brunswick.  The county center is 12.4 miles Northwest of Brunswick nearer Sterling. 

Glynn County government consists of a sheriff, an administrator, a coroner, a clerk, and a tax commissioner (executive).  It has 7 Commissioners (legislative.)  Twenty-one Superior Court Judges serve Glynn, Appling, Bacon, Brantley, Bryan, Bulloch, Camden, Charlton, Chatham, Coffee, Effingham, Evans, Jeff Davis, Jenkins, Liberty, Long, McIntosh, Pierce, Screven, Tattnall, Ware, and Wayne counties and a State Judge and Eight County Judges, court clerk, and county attorney serve Glynn County (judicial.) The county is in southeast Georgia on the Atlantic Ocean.  Savannah, Georgia is northeast and Jacksonville, Florida is southwest of the county.  The county is surrounded clockwise by McIntosh County and the Atlantic Ocean and Camden, Brantley, and Wayne counties. 

The area of the county is 422 square miles.  It is 52 out of 159 in the state.  It ranks 30 out of 159 in population in the state.  It has a density of 200.2 persons per square mile making it 34 out of 159 in the state.  Glynn County has 18.0% of its population in its incorporated areas.  Interstate Highway 95 goes north to south through the county from McIntosh County to Camden County.  United States Highway 17 parallels Interstate Highway 95 from McIntosh County to Camden County.  United States Highways 25/341 enter from Wayne County, northwest, and terminates in the county.  United States Highway 82 originates in the county and heads west into Brantley County.  The county is a rectangle shifted to a 45 degree.  Brunswick is in the southeast on the Atlantic Ocean.  Brunswick is the county seat and the only incorporated city, and thus the largest.  It is 18.0% of the county population.  The county is pronounced GLIN.  This county is in the Brunswick Metropolitan Statistical Area.
